Making of Mini-Movie - “Hi.. I’m Satyu”

Hello friends !! To start with this documentary movie, I knew only one thing.. that I wanted to make this 10 min audio-visual presentation on Autism & nothing else – how to make a movie, how to shoot/ record, how to write a script for it, which software to use & who’s gonna feature in this.. nothing.. I was clueless !!!
I started with getting a brand new 12.1 MP camera, then writing a rough script… went through many websites in order to learn how to use Sony Vegas n Windows Moviemaker & other softwares .. followed by hunt for Autistic child/person who fits in the script.. Through word of mouth.. my masi’s friend Mrs. Bina Modak volunteered to help me out.. She is a great lady indeed!! ( A epitome of truthfulness, straight forwardness, down to earth & very helpful nature. A lovely mother of a lovely child- Satyajit .. who now is 21yr old autistic adult. ) She volunteered to be a part of my movie featuring herself and her child – Satyu.. A Brave Mom !! She helped me with movie making by arranging a meeting with a DJ who being busy just taught me to use Windows moviemaker n Sony Vegas, Script metering, recording/ shooting with digi-camera & lighting.. in one meeting.. wow.. my small mind tired to hold on to as much info as possible..
After this, started the actual movie- recording. Bina Aunty is excellent orator,, but camera shy but managed finally with many retakes and patch works.. of cutting off—“aaa”ss. Well speech part was done easily.. Here, I would like to say.. this tested my patience a lot for “editing” for it was actually “head-eating”.
The difficult part was to shoot Satyu. He is hyperactive & very intelligent… camera shy like his mom.. Finally after many spontaneous & hidden recording, I managed to take a video of him working at Sheltered Workshop..
Finally came the complying part.. editing, special effects, background noise editing (helped by my junior)., transitions between one video and other..& many things.. It took more number of days than the above things..
But I finally managed satisfactorily with my first mini documentary movie of 9 mins named “ Hi.. I’m Satyu”..
I made 2 different versions of this: one for Inter-college OT audio-visual Presentation competition at 59th OT Foundation Day organized by OT Training School & Centre, Seth G.S.Medical College.. (got 2nd prize) and another one for 47th All India Occupational Therapy conference : EMCON’10 held at Ahmedabad.
To Sum it all, It was great learning experience in all aspects- my outlook, my personality etc changed.. It was growing up experience..
Thank you Bina Aunty n Satyu.. for being a part of my life now……..

Dreams do come true !!

Yesterday, we celebrated New Year according to our Hindu Calender. After every New Year day, people make new year resolutions and goals to be achieved in the year that started. I did that every year diligently until past 10 years.. Yesterday, while reading HTBrunch, I came across the article of "The Dream Catcher" wherein actor Sushant Singh Rajput had written 50 dreams he would love to fulfill. It reminded me of a dairy I used to write my dreams in..  So after 10 years, I combed through my cupboard and found my dairy. Went through past dreams, Voila!! I have fulfilled almost all my dreams written for till 2020 except "learn a musical instrument" and "write a book".  As far as learning a musical instrument is concerned...  I confess I tried during my master years to learn guitar and failed miserably.. But considering that I am matured now, no harm retrying.. Maybe a different instrument. Writing a book..haha.. What was I thinking back then.. I was very sur...

My most memorable 4years in Seth G. S. Medical College studying Occupational Therapy..

I vividly remember the day I took Occupational Therapy [OT] in Seth G. S. Medical College.. it was [by 2 nd thought] not by choice but by circumstances .. (I always strongly believed to have chosen the field .. but that rigid un -budging arrogant me never accepted it that I had no choice nor guts enough to explore other options..) That day we freshers had an intro lecture by then H.O.D Mrs I.R.Kenkere .. and that lecture sealed my destiny with OT. It was her answer “Its your hard work and sincerity which makes difference and you have to do that in any given field on this earth..” to my silly question “Ma’am I should take OT or PT?” Without second thoughts I took up OT and vowed to do it religiously.. The 1st year lectures were good but not simulating enough to keep me thinking from dropping out but that wish would never be granted as wasting resources and time was crime … a capital one ..in my house.. I dragged on with OT. I completed 1st yr but was not happy enough ..its when I star...
